Areas of Possible Collaboration between IVT RAS and U.S.A. Partners in Field of Advanced Technologies of Renewables Utilization and Energy Conservation

Dr. Oleg Popel is the head of the Laboratory of Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Conservation at the Institute for High Temperatures, Russian Academy of Sciences. He and his IVT RAS team invented a new composite material called "selective water sorbents" (SWS) with advanced sorption properties. SWS material is a two-phase system that consists of a porous host matrix and a hygroscopic substance impregnated into its pores. It is used in solar assisted adsorption cooling units. They are also involved in the study of solar hot water and space heating systems, advanced approaches of solar thermal power plants, development and testing of advanced low-cost solar collectors, development and implementation of advanced schemes of heat supply and air conditioning of buildings using heat pumps.
